2014 is the 40th anniversary of Leslie N Shaw Park! The overall goal is to raise $500,000 from the community, businesses, and foundations. We have set a goal of raising $30,000 from the community for the exercise stations. Donate $3,000 for a park bench and you can request a dedication on an engraved plate affixed to the bench. Donate $10,000 for a picnic table you can request a dedication on an engraved plate affixed to the table. For a $50,000 donation, your company can adopt-a-park with prominent acknowledgement of your support placed in the park for one year.
The Los Angeles Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit, and donations are charitable contributions that qualify as itemized tax deductions. What can you do to help? You can: Share the link to this page on your Facebook or Twitter account, or email it to your neighbors! Raise $1000 from 25 Households or 10 Businesses. Or set your own goal, whatever you are comfortable with. Collect 100 petition signatures and email addresses of park supporters. Contact USC Schools, professors, and students and have meetings to get support of grad students as writers or publicists Contact UCLA Schools, professors, and students – to get support of grad students as writers or publicists Write press releases for distribution to 5th Avenue Times, Neighborhood News, Sentinel, The Wave, LA Weekly, and Los Angeles Times. Write and submit a grant application. (We have an expert who can help us identify foundations that would be appropriate to apply to, if you are interested in writing an application.) Write copy and stories for flyers/website/email updates. Provide professional level photographs of happy kids at play in a park for publicity and marketing. Design flyers & banners to promote fund-raising. Contribute printing or funds needed to produce banners and marketing materials. Attend meetings of the Leslie Shaw Park Fundraising Committee to share your fundraising ideas!
Rules for Leslie Shaw Park Fundraising Committee Members adopted at July 28, 2014 meeting: Committee members agree that they shall not solicit or collect cash donations for Leslie Shaw Park. Checks are ok! Checks must be made out to the “LA Parks Foundation” and mailed in the official envelope. Committee members must provide official LA Parks Foundation envelopes to potential donors. Committee members understand that Leslie Shaw Park Fundraising Committee is an unincorporated association, and not connected with United Neighborhoods Neighborhood Council or any government entity.
